Luigi is 82 years old. His son Giampiero is 15. Luigi was 67 when Giampiero was born — an age at which most men are already grandfathers. By any conventional measure, this should be an unlikely relationship. These photographs suggests otherwise. Football is one of the things they share, a common language that belongs entirely to them, a space where the 67-year age gap simply doesn't exist. When they look at each other, in that exchange something private and completely unconditional is visible. Within My Father, My Son, Luigi and Giampiero represent a reminder that the bond between a father and son operates entirely outside the conventions of age, expectation, or circumstance. What matters is simply that they have each other.
